BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Expands My Health Novel℠ With New Mental Health and Musculoskeletal Services in Partnership With Solera Health
COLUMBIA, S.C. — May 10, 2022 — BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, along with Solera Health, is expanding My Health Novel℠, its personalized health and wellness program, to include mental health and musculoskeletal offerings to address the diverse clinical needs of its members. Solera Health is an independent company that built a customized health care platform and offers select condition management programs on behalf of BlueCross. My Health Novel’s new services now include leading evidence-based providers eMindful, Headspace® and Headspace Care for mental and behavioral health. Digital therapy solutions are offered by top providers Hinge Health, Kaia Health and Sworkit for musculoskeletal conditions. These network partners were carefully selected after an extensive vetting process to make sure they met Solera’s high standards for efficacy and customer satisfaction. Powered by Solera’s matching algorithm, built and refined based on millions of member responses, My Health Novel will optimize spend and make the most of engagement by pairing individuals with the solutions they would likely benefit from most.
BlueCross and Solera launched the innovative My Health Novel platform in 2021 with a weight management program designed to help fully insured employer groups connect employees with the tools and support that fit their individual lifestyles. The first chapter focused on healthy weight management, diabetes prevention and behavioral counseling.
“Health is not one-size-fits-all, so our health care solutions must be as unique as our members,” said Matthew Shaffer, senior vice president of Major Group at BlueCross. “Our partnership with Solera gives our members unprecedented access to a curated network of world-class, consumer-friendly digital and community point solutions. The product we created provides personalized solutions for members that fit their lifestyles and health goals. We’ve already seen significant success during the first year of the weight management chapter, with 1 in 5 participants reducing the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes by 58%. Considering these successes, we’re excited to expand our efforts in the areas of mental and musculoskeletal health.”
The weight management chapter demonstrated the positive impact a network offering that includes digital and in-person offerings can have on member satisfaction, engagement and outcomes. 84% of participants stated the program increased their satisfaction with BlueCross. Further, 93% of participants were matched to online-only programs.
Expanding My Health Novel to include mental health and musculoskeletal support allows the program to address the diverse needs of a population. In the initial launch period, Solera’s research already shows people are using multiple programs at one time. Now BlueCross can address the needs of a person, not just a condition.
“This second chapter of My Health Novel creates an opportunity to engage members in the areas of mental and musculoskeletal health. The continual member feedback provided through the program informs our existing and future curricula to ensure we are offering optimal health care solutions,” said Shaffer. “BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina has been a forward-thinking and innovative partner,” said Mary Langowski, CEO of Solera. “We are excited to continue our work together to deliver more consumer-friendly health solutions in the critical areas of mental, behavioral and musculoskeletal health. Solera is bringing its value-based payment approach to these new networks of solutions, thereby ensuring aligned incentives and a focus on outcomes."
