Expanding Women’s Health Innovation to Address and Prioritize All Stages of Life
The national discourse around women’s health – along with its funding and innovation – has largely focused on fertility and maternity journeys. Yet we all know that women’s healthcare needs do not start and stop with their childbearing years. Even with more enlightened discourse and health payers’ increased attention, the healthcare community is still grappling with the question of what a comprehensive, thoughtfully designed women's health offering entails. As it is, only 7% of all digital health funding goes toward the women’s health sector - primarily to pregnancy, postpartum, and parenthood support. It’s time to start thinking about how to provide care for women at every unique stage of life.
When Solera added Women’s Health to its multi-condition platform last year, we did so with a laser-focus on creating a targeted care ecosystem that is both comprehensive and integrated. What do we mean by that? Our first-of-its-kind offering of digital point solutions address the spectrum of women’s unique health needs - those woefully underserved by today’s market. Our network comprises best-in-class women’s health partner solutions for pelvic health and menstrual health, to address family building and planning, for perinatal support, and a holistic approach to menopause symptoms or related health concerns.
A recent study of over 2000 women conducted by Solera revealed that women are more frequently concerned about non-pregnancy related issues like pelvic pain, bladder control, heavy periods, peri- and full blown menopause. While these women’s health challenges are extremely common, we found that:
- Only 34% of women had sought treatments or solutions for these conditions from their physician.
- 59% of women would prefer to try a non-pharmacologic intervention (such as pelvic exercises) as a first step.
- 68% of women agree that women’s health doesn’t receive adequate attention.
If you take into account that women make the majority of healthcare spending decisions and spend 29% more per capita on their health when compared to men, it’s clear that it’s time to give women a complete and more accessible way to take control and support their unique health needs.
Through Solera’s proprietary clinical AI technology, members are matched with the best-fit solutions based on their individual needs and preferences, ensuring that each woman (and person) has access to the care she needs. Our research shows that 79% of women are interested in using multiple solutions at the same time, demonstrating that women are willing and able to seek support from a wide range of places/providers. Furthermore, Solera's unique performance-based payment model reinforces the importance of real clinical outcomes to bring better health to women who need it. The result is a more satisfied, productive workforce that feels empowered and supported.
Solera is committed to bringing together the best possible solutions for women's unique physical, behavioral, and social needs at each life stage, and we are proud to welcome these new providers to the Solera network.
